The LIFE Phoenix project celebrated the International Day of Forests with a special event at Palaikastro High School in Lasithi (Crete), organized by the Natural History Museum of Crete and the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature.

The event was dedicated to the value of forest ecosystems, the threats they face, and the unique palm trees of Crete. Special emphasis was placed on the palm forests and the actions of the LIFE Phoenix project aimed at their protection.

Students participated in interactive knowledge quizzes, watched a video dedicated to the Vai palm forest, and created posters for the protection of forests and the Phoenix theophrasti.

On the other hand, an environmental education activity was also carried out in Gran Canaria, coordinated between the LIFE Phoenix projects and the EDUCA EcoIsla programme with the students and teachers of the CEO Tunte.

After an explanation of both projects and the ecological context in which the village of Tunte is located, a tour of the surrounding area took place, learning about the particularities of the Canary Island palm tree and the values and problems associated with the natural palm groves of Phoenix canariensis.
